Spleen
Description

An elongated sponge like tissue organ.
Function
Its function is blood formation. In the embryo, the spleen forms both red and white blood cells; after birth, only lymphocytes are created except in severe anemia, when production of red blood cells may be reactivated. Seems to have some immune function as well. Acts as a reserve for red blood cells.
There are old English usages suck as being good-spleened means to be good-hearted or compassionate. In modern English, "to vent one's spleen" means to vent one's anger. Similarly, the English term “splenetic” is used to describe a person in a foul mood.
